...strong cold front will move through the region thursday...

a cold front will move southeast through the southern appalachians
early thursday. temperatures will rise to above freezing in the
morning hours but fall below freezing most locations in the
afternoon. light snow will likely be observed in many areas with
light accumulations limited to the higher elevations.

breezy northwest winds behind the front will usher in a very cold
airmass. thursday afternoon wind chills will fall to near 20 across
the valleys and into the single digits in the mountains. a second
surge of cold air will push in thursday night. wind chills will
continue to plummet with readings dropping to the single digits most
areas. southwest virginia and the mountains of east tennessee will
see wind chills below zero which will likely require a wind chill
advisory thursday night.

In North Carolina: Cherokee, Clay.  In Tennessee: Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sequatchie, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, Washington.  In Virginia: Bristol City, Lee, Norton City, Russell, Scott, Washington, Wise.
