...light snow accumulations possible late christmas night into
tuesday morning...

a low pressure system will develop just south of new orleans
this evening and will move northeast to the nashville area around
noon on christmas day. as a result...rain will spread
northward from the gulf region...reaching southern areas of middle
tennessee early this evening...and the rest of middle tennessee
after midnight. temperatures will be in the 40s christmas day...with
periods of rain as the low pressure system moves through the mid
state. by christmas evening...middle tennessee will be on the back
side of the low pressure system...and this will allow for the
intrusion of colder air. the rain is expected to mix with...or change
to snow around midnight...christmas night...in western areas along
the tennessee river...then the rest of middle tennessee by
tuesday morning.

total snow accumulations are expected to range from a dusting up to
an inch for western and central areas of the mid state...and
possibly one to two inches along the cumberland plateau. the snow
should taper off to flurries tuesday afternoon in all areas.

since ground temperatures will be above freezing late monday night
and tuesday...snow accumulations should be on grassy areas...and not
seriously impact road travel.
