a very strong cold front will be moving through the region thursday
night into friday. very strong southerly winds will be in advance
of the front...shifting very quickly to the west as the front
passes. in the valley areas of east tennessee...southwest
virginia...and southwest north carolina wind speeds are likely to
be 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 while higher elevations will see
even higher and potentially dangerous winds of 30 to 40 mph with
gusts in the 50 to 60 mph range possible.

this situation could be particularly dangerous to people driving
high profile vehicles such as rv's...busses...and semi-trucks
through the mountain passes.

a high wind watch will be in effect from midnight thursday through
the day friday. stay tuned for further updates and possible
upgrades to warnings or advisories.

In Tennessee: Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sequatchie, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, Washington.  In Virginia: Bristol City, Lee, Norton City, Russell, Scott, Washington, Wise.
