...strong winds possible late tonight into friday across the
region...

a strong cold front will move across the southern appalachian region
around sunrise friday morning. a strong southwesterly wind flow aloft
is expected to develop ahead of this front after midnight tonight...
with strong winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph affecting
mainly the higher elevations above 2500 feet. in the valleys below
2500 feet...southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts will
be common throughout the night. however...a line of showers along the
cold front could also bring some of the stronger winds aloft down
into the valleys around sunrise friday morning. as a result...winds
of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph will be possible in the
valleys around sunrise friday morning.

a high wind watch is in effect for the higher elevations from
midnight tonight through friday afternoon. this situation could be
particularly dangerous to people driving high profile vehicles in the
higher elevations. stay tuned to noaa weather radio...or your
favorite radio or tv station...for further updates and possible
upgrades to warnings or advisories.
