the nws storm prediction center has issued a 
tornado watch for portions of 
 
northern alabama 
northern georgia 
far western north carolina 
middle and eastern tennessee 
 
effective this tuesday night and wednesday morning from 805 pm 
until 200 am cdt. 
 
tornadoes...hail to 2 inches in diameter...thunderstorm wind 
gusts to 70 mph...and dangerous lightning are possible in these 
areas. 
 
the tornado watch area is approximately along and 65 statute 
miles north and south of a line from 40 miles northwest of muscle 
shoals alabama to 50 miles east southeast of crossville 
tennessee.  for a complete depiction of the watch see the

remember...a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for 
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch 
area. persons in these areas should be on the lookout for 
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements 
and possible warnings. 
 
other watch information...this tornado watch replaces severe 
thunderstorm watch number 113. watch number 113 will not be in

discussion...extensive qlcs now over srn ks/w tn expected to 
continue esewd.  ample deep shear now present for embedded 
supercells may strengthen slightly this evening as main mid level 
speed now over srn mo continues ewd and glances ww region. 
increasingly moist low level wswly flow...diminishing temp-dew point 
spreads with sunset...and continuing presence of weak n-s oriented 
warm front /now near csv/ to support discrete cell development 
suggest some threat for tornadoes.  one or two spin-up type 
tornadoes may also form along main sqln. 
 
aviation...tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail 
surface and aloft to 2 inches. extreme turbulence and surface 
wind gusts to 60 knots. a few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 
500. mean storm motion vector 28030.
