appalachian region tonight...and the cold temperatures are 
expected to linger through the weekend. a weak upper level system 
dropping to the southeast will provide significant cloud cover 
across northeast tennessee and southwest virginia and some light 
snow into early saturday. this cold air mass may still provide 
record low temperatures in many areas over the next few mornings.

cold canadian high pressure will continue across the region 
allowing temperatures to fall below freezing late this evening 
across all of east tennessee...southwest virginia...and extreme 
southwest north carolina. record low temperatures may be broken 
in some areas by saturday morning. temperatures will be at or 
below freezing for several hours saturday morning. 
 
a freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are expected or 
occurring. these conditions may kill crops and other sensitive 
vegetation that are left unprotected.
