...light snow accumulations possible by tonight across the higher 
elevations of southwest virginia and east tennessee... 
 
.a strong upper level disturbance will swing over the southern 
appalachian region this afternoon and evening...bringing much 
colder air aloft. this colder air aloft will help change the rain 
over to snow this afternoon and evening across mainly the higher 
elevations above 2500 feet. some light snow accumulations will be 
possible across the higher elevations before this snow ends later 
tonight.

a snow advisory remains in effect until 4 am edt monday. 
 
rain showers will gradually mix with or change to snow showers this 
afternoon and evening. light snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches 
will be possible by early monday morning across the higher 
elevations of southwest virginia and east tennessee...mainly above 
2500 feet. this includes the smoky mountains...were isolated higher 
amounts may occur on the highest peaks and ridges. 
 
a snow advisory means that periods of snow are expected or 
occurring...but accumulations are expected to be light.  driving 
and walking may be difficult on untreated roadways and sidewalks. 
be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities. if 
you must travel...slow down and allow extra time to reach your 
destination.

In Tennessee: Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Sevier, Unicoi.  In Virginia: Bristol City, Lee, Norton City, Russell, Scott, Washington, Wise.
