...windy conditions expected this afternoon into monday... 
 
.a low pressure system over the carolinas will continue to track 
northeast along the mid atlantic coastal areas today. this will 
keep a strong pressure gradient across the southern appalachians. 
as a result...strong northwest winds will develop across 
southwest virginia...northeast tennessee and southwest north 
carolina...especially over the higher elevations above 2500 feet. 
these strong northwest winds are expected to continue into monday.

a wind advisory remains in effect until 6 pm edt monday. 
 
strong northwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with higher gusts up 
to 45 mph...will develop this afternoon across southwest 
virginia...northeast tennessee and southwest north carolina. 
higher wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts will be 
possible across the higher elevations above 2500 feet. these 
strong northwest winds are expected to continue into monday. 
 
a wind advisory means that sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph and/or 
gusts of 40 to 57 mph are expected. winds this strong can make 
driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles... so 
use caution when driving.
