...light snow accumulations possible overnight across the higher
elevations of southwest virginia and northeast tennessee...
.a strong upper level disturbance will swing over the southern
appalachian region this afternoon and evening...bringing much
colder air aloft. this colder air aloft will help change the rain
over to snow this evening across southwest virginia and much of
northeast tennessee...including the smoky mountains.
although lower elevations...including the north and central
valleys...may see some light snowfall...accumulations should be
limited to the higher elevations above 2500 feet. heaviest snow
amounts should mainly occur above 4000 feet.
stay tuned to this station or noaa weather radio for later
statements and forecasts.

a snow advisory remains in effect until 4 am edt monday.
rain showers will gradually mix with or change to snow showers
late this afternoon and evening...possibly mixed with drizzle or
sleet at times. light snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches will be
possible by early monday morning across the higher elevations of
southwest virginia and northeast tennessee...mainly above 2500
feet. this includes the smoky mountains...were isolated higher
amounts up to 4 inches may occur on the highest peaks and ridges.
a snow advisory means that periods of snow are expected or
occurring...but accumulations are expected to be light. driving
and walking may be difficult on untreated roadways and sidewalks.
be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities. if
you must travel...slow down and allow extra time to reach your
destination.

In Tennessee: Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Sevier, Unicoi. In Virginia: Bristol City, Lee, Norton City, Russell, Scott, Washington, Wise.
