...more light wintry precipitation possible overnight into friday...

wintry precipitation had generally ended this afternoon across the
region...although areas of light rain or drizzle may continue to
move across southern parts of east tennessee and southwestern north
carolina into the evening hours. temperatures at the surface and
aloft had warmed...so little to no snow is anticipated.

however...another smaller and weaker disturbance to our west will
approach the region late tonight...and affect our weather into at
least friday morning. areas of light rain will develop and affect
much of the region later tonight...with a possible mix with or
change to light snow across northeast parts of the cumberland
plateau and southwestern virginia before daybreak friday.

another surge of cold air will flow into the region during the day
friday...keeping temperatures well below seasonal normals. some
areas of light snow may continue during the day...with light
accumulations possible from the northeast parts of the cumberland
plateau...higher elevations of southwestern virginia and the
northern mountains of east tennessee. however...snow accumulations
are expected to only range from trace amounts up to 2 inches at
most.

if this system were to strengthen or tap into more moisture than
anticipated...snow or winter weather advisories might be required
for parts of the region late tonight into friday morning.
