...accumulating snowfall expected across the higher elevations on 
tuesday... 
 
.a fast-moving cold front will approach the southern appalachian 
region late tonight...spreading precipitation across southwest 
virginia and east tennessee on tuesday morning. in the higher 
elevations of southwest virginia and east tennessee...snow 
accumulations will be possible...mainly above 2500 feet. locally 
higher amounts will also be possible in the highest elevations of 
the mountains above 4000 feet. warm ground and near-surface 
temperatures should help to limit snow accumulations below 
2500 feet...although up to two inches may be possible across the 
southwest virginia valleys and east tennessee mountain foothills.

snow is expected to develop across east tennessee around sunrise 
tomorrow...with snowfall accumulations of one to six inches 
possible...mainly above 2500 feet. locally higher amounts will also 
be possible in the highest elevations of the mountains above 4000 
feet. warm ground and near-surface temperatures should help to 
limit snow accumulations in the foothills below 2500 feet... 
although up to two inches may quickly accumulate with any snow 
squalls. 
 
a winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant 
snow...sleet...and/or ice accumulations. future driving 
conditions may become hazardous...so continue to monitor the 
latest forecasts.
