...wintry precipitation possible this weekend across the region...
cold air...which is actually close to normal for this time of year...
will remain in place across the southern appalachian region through
the weekend. a low pressure system is expected to develop over the
lower mississippi valley saturday night...and then track northeast
toward the southern appalachian region on sunday. this system will
bring large amounts of gulf moisture northward into the region.
however...the depth of sub-freezing air remaining in place across the
region remains in question. thus...the actual precipitation types
remains in question. ultimately...precipitation types and amounts
will depend on the track...strength and timing of this system...which
may change somewhat over the next few days.
please stay tuned to noaa weather radio...or your favorite tv or
radio station...for later statements and forecast updates as this
weekend's system evolves.
