...light wintry precipitation possible sunday morning across the
region...

cold air will remain in place across the southern appalachian region
this weekend...as a low pressure system develops along the gulf coast
on saturday. this system will spread moisture toward the southern
appalachian region late saturday night into sunday morning...with
temperatures expected to be hovering at or below freezing. as a
result...some light freezing rain or sleet is expected during the
onset of this precipitation...with some light snow also possible
across southwest virginia and northeast tennessee. temperatures are
expected to slowly rise above freezing by sunday afternoon...
resulting in rain for the entire region. right now...it would appear
that only light ice accumulations of around a tenth of an inch or
less will be possible on sunday morning...mainly north of a
crossville to knoxville to gatlinburg line. in addition...light snow
accumulations of one to two inches will be possible across southwest
virginia and northeast tennessee. however...a slight change in the
timing of this precipitation may lead to higher precipitation amounts
than currently forecast.
