...chance of snow showers and very cold air tonight through thursday
night...

an upper level disturbance will pass to the north of the area
today...and some light snow showers will be possible in southwest
virginia. a much stronger upper level disturbance will bring a
better chance of snow showers late tonight...thursday...and
thursday night. very cold temperatures aloft and an upslope wind
will result in a good chance of accumulating snow in southwest
virginia and the tennessee mountains. exact snowfall amounts are
uncertain at this time...but accumulations should average less than
4 inches over southwest virginia and the mountains. there will be
a potential for some stronger snow bursts to produce isolated
higher amounts...expecially in the higher elevations. locations in
the tennessee valley and cumberland plateau may see a dusting to
an inch.

in addition...low temperatures are expected to be in the teens to the
single digits thursday night in the mountains...and winds will be
from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph. with these very cold
temperatures and strong winds...wind chill values are expected to
drop below zero in the mountains on thursday night.
