...wintry precipitation may become hazardous thursday...

a low pressure system will approach the region from the southwest
wednesday night. a cold airmass will be in place over the area.
light snow will advance eastward into the southern appalachians
early on thursday. elevated warm air will move northward on
thursday. the snow will become mixed with sleet before changing to
rain. surface conditions in the lower elevations will remain at or
below freezing at the onset of the rain. there is a chance for
hazardous icy conditions. measurable snowfall of 2 to 4 is
possible...especially over northeast tennessee and southwest
virginia.

the timing of this system will be critical in the evolution of
precipitation type. the chance for dangerous icy conditions has
been on the increase.
