...accumulating snowfall expected late wednesday night into 
thursday... 
 
.a cold air mass will remain over the southern appalachian region 
tonight...as moisture associated with a developing low pressure 
system over the gulf coast moves north across the region. mostly 
snow will spread across the watch area during the day thursday... 
with significant snow accumulations possible...mainly over the 
higher elevations. the snow will mix with sleet...light freezing 
rain and rain thursday afternoon...but some additional ice and snow 
accumulations may linger into thursday evening. 
 
the winter storm watch will be upgraded to advisories and warnings 
this afternoon as needed. however...persons near the watch area 
should also monitor the development of this winter weather 
system...as some light snow or ice accumulations might also occur 
outside of this initial watch area.

your national weather service.

snow will begin on wednesday night after midnight...with total 
snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches possible by evening...mainly 
in the higher elevations. 
 
a winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant 
snow...sleet...and/or ice accumulations. future driving 
conditions may become hazardous...so continue to monitor the 
latest forecasts.
