...severe thunderstorms possible this evening...generally
south of interstate 40...

a strong low pressure system and associated cold front will move
across the southern appalachians overnight. shower and
thunderstorms will affect the area this evening as the front
approaches the southern appalachians. there is the potential for
some of the storms reaching severe limits...generally south of
interstate 40. the main threat from the storms will be damaging
straight line winds and large hail. locations with the greatest
threat of severe weather will be in the southern cumberland
plateau and southern tennessee valley.

further details or updates.

In Tennessee: Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sequatchie, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, Washington.  In Virginia: Bristol City, Lee, Norton City, Russell, Scott, Washington, Wise.
