...wind advisory today for the smoky mountains and its foothills... 
 
.a strengthening low pressure system over the southern plains... 
will help to generate strong southerly winds across the smoky 
mountains this morning into the afternoon. in addition...some of 
these strong winds could descend into the foothills of the smoky 
mountains. otherwise...breezy conditions will occur elsewhere today 
across most of east tennessee...southwestern virginia and southwest 
parts of north carolina.

the wind advisory is now in effect until 5 pm edt this afternoon. 
 
southeasterly winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will be 
possible across the smoky mountains into the afternoon. in addition 
...some of these winds could descend into the foothills of the 
smokies. the winds should gradually diminish and shift to the west 
and northwest tonight. 
 
a wind advisory means that winds of 31 to 39 mph and/or gusts of 
40 to 57 mph are expected or occurring. winds this strong can 
make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles... 
so use caution when driving.
