.a large area of high pressure will become centered over the 
southern appalachian region tonight. as a result...clear skies 
and light winds will combine to allow temperatures to fall into 
the upper 20s to lower 30s this morning across a large part of 
southwest virginia...northeast tennessee...the smoky 
mountains...and extreme southwest north carolina. even colder 
temperatures are expected tonight...and a large portion of the 
central tennessee valley and the northern cumberland plateau could 
see temperatures near or below freezing tonight.

the national weather service in morristown has issued a freeze 
warning...which is in effect from 4 am to 10 am edt tuesday. 
 
temperatures are expected to fall to near or below freezing tonight 
across the central tennessee valley and northern cumberland 
plateau...allowing widespread frost to form. 
 
a freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are expected or 
occurring. these conditions may kill crops and other sensitive 
vegetation that are left unprotected.
